Nesting work is the majority of sea turtle research. Sea turtles spend 90% of their lives in the water, but the other 10% is on the beach, either as hatchlings emerging from the nests or as females coming back to dig their nests and lay their eggs. There are a few special places where turtles come up on the beach to sunbathe, but this is rare and seen only in Hawaii and the Galapagos Islands.
